With an idea in mind, it was time to put what we were thinking into a CAD model. Our first objective was to recreate the original tripod as a CAD program in order to have an idea of what our main part under investigation looked like on the computer screen. Once the original assembly was complete, our group began combining, eliminating, and modifying the original assembly pieces to create parts for our new product with the intention to produce a much simpler design the company will be able to make for its target clientele. As each piece became complete, we steadily moved each piece into a new assembly to see what the final product would look like. Upon completion of the assembly, the new ideation became a CAD model, one step closer to becoming real product.

The Number of Parts Eliminated from the Original Product.

Not only did we reduce the number of parts in the product but we also increased functionality. The original product had too much unnecessary modularity: changing from a camera to a phone required the customer to bring many parts and would take too much time to change. The phone clamp and the 1/4" camera screw mount were combined into the same part, so no additional time or parts are necessary.
